Minelab Equinox Series
From the 600 to the 900: Multi-IQ Technology for Every Detectorist
The Multi-IQ Revolution
The Equinox series changed the game with Multi-IQ Technology. Before this, you had to choose between a VLF machine (good for coins) or a Pulse Induction machine (good for salt).
Multi-IQ transmits multiple frequencies simultaneously (e.g., 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 kHz). This allows the detector to see large silver coins deep down and tiny gold nuggets near the surface at the exact same time.
Speed & Versatility
The Equinox is defined by its Recovery Speed. It is incredibly fast, allowing it to pick out a good target masked by iron trash.
- Waterproof: Fully submersible (3m for 600/800; 5m for 700/900).
- All-Terrain: Pre-set modes for Park, Field, Beach, and Gold (800/900 only) make it "turn on and go."
- Lightweight: Modern carbon-fiber shafts (on the newer 700/900 models) make swinging effortless.
Comparing the Range
Minelab currently offers the older generation (600/800) and the upgraded generation (700/900).
| Feature | Equinox 600 | Equinox 800 | Equinox 700 (New) | Equinox 900 (New) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Target ID Scale | -9 to 40 | -9 to 40 | -19 to 99 (High Res) | -19 to 99 (High Res) |
| Search Modes | Park, Field, Beach | Park, Field, Beach, Gold | Park, Field, Beach | Park, Field, Beach, Gold |
| Waterproof | 3m (10ft) | 3m (10ft) | 5m (16ft) | 5m (16ft) |
| Shaft System | Standard Aluminum | Standard Aluminum | Collapsible Carbon Fiber | Collapsible Carbon Fiber |
| Included Coils | 11" only | 11" only | 11" only | 11" AND 6" |
💡 Key Difference: 600/800 vs 700/900
The newer 700 and 900 models feature a greatly expanded Target ID range (0-99 vs the old 0-40). This "High Resolution" ID spreads out the conductive targets, making it much easier to distinguish a silver dime from a penny or a screw cap.
✅ The Pros
- Value for Money: The Equinox 600/700 offers flagship performance at a mid-range price.
- Weight: Much lighter than the CTX 3030, making it easier for all-day hunting.
- Beach Performance: The Multi-IQ tech dominates on wet saltwater sand where single-frequency machines fail.
- Future Proof: Software updatable via Minelab Update Utility (MUU).
⚠️ The Cons
- Build Quality (Older Models): The older 600/800 had issues with coil ear breakage (fixed in 700/900).
- Target Compression: The older 600/800 compresses IDs (0-40), making some trash signal similar to coins.
- No Visual Trace: Lacks the visual "Target Trace" screen found on the CTX 3030 and Manticore.
Available Search Coils
Note: EQX coils fit both the older (600/800) and newer (700/900) models.
Official Minelab Coils
The "Sniper." Absolute necessity for iron-infested home sites or trashy parks. Laser-like separation.
The Standard. Included with all machines. The best balance of weight, depth, and coverage.
The depth beast. Covers massive ground on beaches and pastures. Digs deeper than the 11".
Approved Coiltek Coils (NOX Series)
Widely considered the "best coil ever made" for the Equinox. It separates like the 6" but covers ground like a 10".
A lightweight alternative to the Minelab 15". Excellent for water hunting as it has less drag.
A large round coil offering significant depth and punch. Great for open fields where depth is king.
The largest coil available. Strictly for deep hoard hunting or clean beaches.
