Duchy’s Dirty Weekends: The Ultimate Cornwall Metal Detecting Rally

For 3 weekends in September 2026

Experience Cornwall’s first-of-its-kind metal detecting roadshow experience. Created by Duchy Metal Detectors for the UK detecting community, our exclusive rally events combine exciting new land permissions, proper weekend camping, and incredible metal detecting in some of the UK’s most scenic locations. Imagine swinging your machine across open countryside fields with stunning coastal backdrops and sea views. Whether you want to try beach metal detecting or find historical hammered coins in fresh soil, Duchy’s Dirty Weekends in September offers friendly events, unmatched locations, and unforgettable treasure hunting.

The Metal Detecting Roadshow Concept
Instead of a single-weekend event, this unique roadshow moves across the Cornish landscape with multiple weekend stops and mid-week camp breaks.

The Routine: Arrive and set up camp on Thursday, enjoy a full weekend of intensive detecting, and pack down by Sunday evening or Monday morning before the roadshow shifts locations.

Join the Adventure: Book a single weekend or follow the full roadshow across Cornwall! September is a quieter time for local tourist spots, making it easy to arrange nearby mid-week campsite accommodations if you are staying for multiple stops.

Fresh Permissions: Exact metal detecting sites are announced closer to the dates, ensuring completely fresh land, diverse terrains, and an amazing community atmosphere.

What to Expect: The Rally Experience

Every stop on the roadshow has its own unique flavour and setup, but every event is centred around great detecting and good company. Across selected weekend stops, you will find:

Top Detecting Brands & Trade Stands: Meet industry experts and try out the latest metal detectors, coils, and pointer gear from top brands like Minelab, Garrett, XP Metal Detectors, Rutus, and Nokta.

On-Site Facilities: Enjoy hassle-free camping with accessible toilets, local food vendors serving hot breakfast and evening meals, and a large central event tent featuring a licensed bar and live entertainment. Select sites may also feature electrical hook-ups and hot showers.

Extra Prizes: Keep the competitive spirit buzzing with regular raffles, token hunts, and massive metal detecting gear giveaways.

Night & Day Metal Detecting Games
The excitement doesn't stop when the sun goes down. Put your skills to the test with our custom metal detecting games (just £10 entry per game) with high-end detectors and major prizes up for grabs!

Let's GLOW Hunting (Saturday Night Dark-Field Hunt): When darkness falls, the fields light up. This unique, one-hour night detecting challenge gives you glow sticks to light up your gear. Race to uncover 200 hidden tokens scattered across the field—the detectorist with the most tokens wins a brand-new metal detector, alongside 9 fantastic runner-up prizes. Bring your head torch and prepare for proper detectorist fun!

Finders-KEY-pers (Daytime Race): 300 keys. One chest. One ultimate prize. In this fast-paced field challenge, hundreds of keys are scattered across the ground, but only one will unlock the prize chest. It’s a dead sprint to find a key, test the lock, and see if you’ll be walking away with a premium metal detector.

Your Responsibility: Metal detecting laws vary significantly across Europe. Ignorance of the law is not a defence. You must ensure you have valid permissions and insurance (such as NCMD) before travelling.

Quick Guide to European Restrictions
FRANCE Strictly Regulated. Illegal to search for history/art without a Prefectural license (rarely granted). "Leisure" detecting is a legal grey area and risky.
IRELAND Illegal. Strictly prohibited to search for archaeological objects anywhere. You cannot use a detector near monuments without a state license.
SPAIN Strict. generally prohibited on any historical sites. Laws vary by region (Andalusia is very strict), often requiring licenses that are hard for tourists to get.
ITALY Mixed. Beaches are generally tolerated. Inland searching for antiquities is strictly forbidden; all finds belong to the state.
BELGIUM License Required. In Flanders, you must have a specific metal detecting license from the agency for Immovable Heritage.
NETHERLANDS Allowed (With Rules). Generally permitted if you do not dig deeper than 30cm and stay away from registered monuments.
