The lifeboat is to be named Joel and April Grunnill.

The Shannon class is a revolutionary design of lifeboat, capable of speeds in excess of 25 knots and the RNLI's first all-weather lifeboat to be propelled using water-jets rather than propellers. Primarily designed to replace carriage-launched Mersey class boats, the launch and recovery methods have been greatly improved both to reduce the time these operations take and to improve crew safety.
